the more he contemplates, the less he lives; the more readily he recognizes his own needs in the images of need proposed by the dominant system, the less he understands his own existence and his own desires.
This mind map was made for my MA graduation show. The aim was to create one unified piece of work but which communicated in a very similar way to the mind maps I was making within my bedroom and studio at the time.(see http://brightstembuildingblocks.tumblr.com/#7610061243)
On the day the show went up I arrived at the gallery very early with all the images I owned and scattered them out on hte floor. The only thing I really knew was which image I was starting with which was a 3d generated sculpture which resembled a fetus in the whom. From there I would work outwards developing relationships between the images. It was a bit of a gamble as I had never produced a mind map like this as a finished piece of work only as exploration towards something else. This was then presented with a paper exploring the main themes and a website which explored similar themes to the mindmap you can still see this here: http://www.acwood.co.uk/building%20blocks/index.html
Here’s a photo taken of my bedroom around 2007. You can see that I’m now using my wall as a place to stimulate my brain in many different areas. I don’t usually use my studio/bedroom walls as places to explore one single project but rather explore all the different areas of interest at once. often placing the images next to each other in ways that bare no logical or strait forward relationship.
This is one of the earliest mind maps i have recorded. It was put together in my first year at uni. When I went to uni (in Surrey I had grown up in Yorkshire) the whole experience was very disconnected from my life previously so this was a way of connecting the two creating one mental landscape out of two separate parts.
